Attend Air District Meeting, show support for robust regulation

particulate-matter-graph.gifIn October, the Air District board directed staff to develop specific proposals to reduce refinery emissions — a great step forward for cleaning Bay Area air and curbing greenhouse gases. Our job now is to demonstrate the public’s commitment to these goals, and our attention to the specifics of proposed regulations. For that reason, the Communities for a Better Environment (CBE)  asks us to attend the next Board of Directors meeting at BAAQMD. (See below.)

The oil industry will be pushing for delays and advancing reasons to weaken the regulations. We must not permit that. Be prepared to support the staff directive and emphasize the need for the rapid development and adoption of new refinery rules.

CBE has created a succinct 2-page information sheet, Climate Justice Policy on Oil Refining, that offers an overview of the refinery pollution in the Bay Area. The sheet describes the problem and solution, outlines key points in the recent history of refinery regulation, and recommends specific actions.
