You can bring more green energy to your city. Community Choice Energy (CCE), or Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), enables cities and counties to aggregate the buying power of their residents and businesses while providing 50% or 100% renewable energy. This is an alternative to the traditional utility business model that monopolizes the energy supply. Under a CCE program, PG&E continues to manage the grid, distribution lines, repairs, and billing system. The cost to the consumer is typically less than PGE’s, which provides only 28% renewable energy. A CCE can also create local green jobs.
Sierra Club, the Contra Costa Chapter of Organizing for Action, Sunflower Alliance and other organizations are building public awareness and support for CCE in our county. This presentation and another in El Sobrante on December 2 (we'll post this event in advance) are products of this effort.
Three Contra Costa cities have already joined Marin's CCE (MCE): Richmond, El Cerrito, and San Pablo. A countywide CCE would bring more local green jobs (including union jobs) and create a continuous, environmentally sustainable revenue stream for all the county.
So mark you calendar, plan to attend, bring questions—and bring friends!
