Demonstrate to keep ban on export of crude oil. Thursday, Aug. 20

oil-tanker-ship.jpgThe oil industry is working with its friends in Congress to lift the decades-old ban on shipping crude oil abroad.  Please join Greenaction and grassroots groups in Texas and Chicago to kick off a nationwide campaign calling on the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to uphold the crude oil export ban. Permitting the export of crude oil to foreign countries will encourage even more fracking and tar sands mining—with all that means for public health and global climate.

In late July, the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Senator Murkowski of Alaska, approved the “Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015” that includes a dangerous measure to lift the decades-old crude oil export ban.

Even if you can’t attend this demonstration, please call to your senator or congressperson at  (202) 224-3121 and urge them to vote against any attempt to lift the ban on exporting crude oil out of the US.

A Climate Justice Protest is also planned for Tuesday, September 8th at noon, again at the Federal Building. The goal is to escalate the campaign to keep the crude oil export ban in place—and to keep the crude oil in the ground.
