Stop development on toxic sites, curb gentrification. Jan 28

Toxic sign at Hunters Point ShipyardHousing development on toxic sites and gentrification threaten the health and security of residents of Bayview Hunters Point and other San Francisco neighborhoods.  Greenaction and other environmental  justice and community organizations (see Sponsors, below) urge you to join a demonstration at the downtown sales office of Lennar Corporation.

Lennar is building a huge residential and commercial development at the Hunters Point Shipyard, on land contaminated with radioactive and toxic waste and at risk from sea level rise. The corporation is also developing contaminated land at Treasure Island, and proposing to build a high-end development in the Mission. These projects will contribute to the displacement of longtime residents. What’s needed instead is a proper and thorough cleanup of contaminated sites, and affordable housing on land that is clean and safe to live on.
