Your voice at the City Council Meeting in Martinez can help stop explosive Bakken crude oil coming through Martinez every 7-10 days, on its way to the Kinder Morgan rail yard in Richmond, and then back to Tesoro by tanker trucks over Highway 4.
The City Council will consider a very weak resolution to improve safety. However it fails to take a stand against the passage of crude-by-rail, instead urging "vigilance" and expediting the phase-out of old cars. (Read a city councilman's weak resolution.)
If you want to help stop crude-by-rail coming to the Bay Area, please plan on attending the City Council Meeting in Martinez, and providing public comment. The Martinez Environmental Group (MEG) has developed an alternative resolution which opposes transportation of hazardous materials along California waterways, through densely populated areas, and through Martinez and the East Bay. (Read MEG's alternative resolution.)
