Consider joining members of the Sunflower Alliance by calling on the BART Board of Directors to drop a $70,000 fine, and stating your opposition to criminal charges brought against protesters who conducted a non-violent action temporarily shutting down a BART station on November 28th.
On that day, 14 members of the #BlackLivesMatter network shut down the West Oakland BART station to protest a discriminatory pattern of police violence that has taken too many Black lives. With their action, the protesters joined hundreds of thousands of others nationwide who demonstrated and conducted acts of nonviolent civil disobedience. In response to the BART action, the Alameda County Deputy District Attorney has applied extremely harsh penalties for misdemeanor criminal trespass, requiring the 14 protesters to pay up to $70,000 in “restitution” to BART for lost fares.
Join ten thousand others by signing a petition urging BART directors to withdraw their criminal complaint for the temporary interruption of BART trains.
