Demand Air Board Set Strong Limits—Not Just Monitor—Refinery Emissions. Wednesday, Sept. 3

girl-inhaler.jpgEven Chevron admits it can cut its emissions of particulate matter—the most harmful pollutant in the Bay Area’s air. So what are our air quality officials waiting for?

Join us September 3rd to demand that our air officials tell us where they stand.

Air pollution kills thousands annually in the Bay Area and threatens to destroy our climate globally. Oil refineries are the biggest industrial air polluters in the Bay Area. They could reduce air pollution now by replacing old, outdated equipment. Instead, they want to refine even dirtier grades of crude oil. That would further increase air pollution.

Now the oil companies are pushing the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) to take all of the emissions control requirements out of its proposed refinery emissions rule. Instead of taking feasible steps to reduce emissions that cause harm now, they want a rule that allows their pollution and only ‘monitors’ the ongoing harm!

Join numerous local and national environmental groups* to demand that our air quality officials vote for refinery emissions cleanup. Support including emission limits in the BAAQMD’s proposed Bay Area refineries rule. Oppose Big Oil’s push for a ‘monitoring only’ policy that threatens to study us to death. Tell our elected officials on BAAQMD’s Board that we need to know where they stand. What: Meeting of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors—write “cleanup refineries now” on your speaker card When: Wednesday, September 3, 2014 (all morning—suggest arrival by 9 AM) Where: BAAQMD offices, 939 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 94109 (Ellis near Van Ness Ave., about eight blocks from Civic Center BART Station)
