Tony Thurmond Town Hall, Oct 29

boy-inhaler.jpgJoin Assemblymember Tony Thurmond, 15th District, for an Environmental Town Hall to hear an update on his 2015 environmental report card regarding Assembly Bill 1496 (methane) and Senate Bill 350, historic legislation that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve our environment. Learn about the challenges and opportunities that leading Bay Area environmental justice organizations are facing and share your ideas for a cleaner environment.

Join efforts to increase statewide diversity on the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and bring new voices to the environmental movement to help solve the environmental disparities affecting low-income areas and communities of color.

This is a very good opportunity to ask why CARB is engaged in suppressing local efforts to regulate GHGs emitted by our Bay Area refineries, especially given the fact that GHG co-pollutants are causing physical suffering and shortened lifespans in our refinery communities.  Can we count on Tony Thurmond's support in pushing CARB to stop proffering cap and trade as the final solution for reducing pollution in impacted communities?

Trading pollution credits on the state market = environmental injustice.  Local communities need strong regulation of refinery emissions, including GHGs. Yes, this means current negotiations with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, which has called upon CARB leadership to ensure tepid local regulation of refinery emissions, and no local regulation of GHGs.  Ask questions!  Ask Tony to investigate what's going on in his own backyard!  Let him know we have his back if he dares to ask the right questions in Sacramento and advocates for communities on the environmental front lines.
